How to choose a functional living room layout.

The living room is one of the most used spaces in the home and has to be functional. Most people just arrange their sitting rooms without asking themselves what exactly will the space be used for in relation to function. ie. living room only, living room and dining, living room and play area etc.
The following steps will help anyone decide on a practical decorating scheme to fit a different and specific goal.
1. Emphasis on a Focal Point -For example, if you would like to direct attention to a particular focal point in your living room (be it a bookcase, television set or a fantastic view), all furniture should be oriented towards that focal unit, with armchairs, pillows and ottomans creating an inviting conversation circle.

2. Emphasis on Conversation- Sofas and chairs should be grouped together so people can talk together easily. The living room should be arranged so people work around not through conversation areas.

3. Kids Friendly Areas- Create a natural divide between the kid's area and the adult's space using partitions like a couch or a table acts as a boundary. Have a good storage to put all the kids toys, it could be a couch designed with storage or a side bench.

4. Dining Areas- Some people use their space as a dining and living room area. This layout is common, but be sure to demarcate the 2 spaces with a couch or partition.

Whatever your preference, be sure to make it reflect you and most of all very FUNCTIONAL.
Please feel free to comment or share suggestions on how to make a living room functional.
