Is your Kitchen Childproof?

The kitchen is the hub of the home and at the same time the most common place for injuries to take place in the home, especially with children in the home.So what can we parents do to prevent such hazards from occurring in the home.

Below are tips on how to childproof our kitchens.

 1. The age of the child determines the measures to be taken. Put yourself in your child's shoes and try to ask what can tempt a child or what is within your child's reach. Then try and devise ways to protect the child from injuries.

2.Blenders and mixers should be placed on a high shelf, because if at the bottom children can play with the blades and hurt themselves.

3.Install magnetic locks on the cabinets, even if they are empty. Because they may hide in the cabinets or try to climb the doors to get to the top of the cabinet.

4.All kitchen accessories should be placed out of the child's reach. Eg. cups, knives, plates, dishes, cutlery etc.Place them on higher shelves.

5.Children are fascinated by gas knobs, so if you are not cooking, please turn off the gas from the supply. To prevent gas from been released.

6.Keep oven doors locked so they don't enter inside or climb on the oven door.

7. Ensure the fridge's door is locked, some actually come with a key.

8. Better still have a gate by the door, to prevent access into the kitchen.

The kitchen and the children are not a good combination at all. And can be the most challenging room to child proof. So please devise methods of childproofing your kitchen.
