1.Prior to purchasing an area rug, assess your lifestyle. Homes with kids will require wool rugs that are easy to clean, with pattern and a dark shade of color so it can hid stains and spills.

2.The size of the area rug should be smaller than the area to be covered but large enough to cover the center.  The size of the rug will also determine the furniture layout.
